Description

The unusual design of this table, particularly the thick ebony lines to the top and the use of brass for the drawer fronts, point to the workshop of George Bullock (1782/3-1818) or his circle. Bullock’s family were based in Liverpool, evidently entrepreneurs of the burgeoning decorative arts market of that city and principally working as modelers and marble sculptors around 1800.

By 1806 Bullock was branching out into furnishing in the latest styles in the Grecian rooms, Church St in Liverpool and collecting significant clients and large commissions. In 1812 Bullock moved to London, following his older brother William to the well known Egyptian Hall on Piccadilly.
