Description
A rare bowl at the V and A, London (13-1897) and dated late 16th/early 17th century,shares the same palette and very similar style of decoration with simple leaf designs from a black line scrolling stem. The majority of ceramic production in Damascus was focused on tiles for both domestic and religious schemes but a surprisingly small number of domestic vessels are also known. The closeness of painting between this bowl and our tile suggest the same tile factory in Damascus at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century.
