Description

The Jackson family of gilders and glass polishers are first recorded at Essex Bridge, Dublin in 1723. The business continued in the family until 1827 with the retirement of Richard Jackson. Richard entered the partnership with his brother James from 1775, taking over entirely in 1786. This area of Dublin around Essex Quay housed many of the most eminent glass grinders and mirror sellers in eighteenth century Dublin, with the Booker family as nextdoor neighbours.

This pair of mirrors circa 1790-1800 date from Richard’s ownership and relate to other multiplate mirrors in the neoclassical style with this label.
