10031 A large Portuguese incised cedarwood coffer for the European export market, the rectangular chip carved lid lifting up to reveal a candle box, the sides incised with a unicorn amongst trees, the front panel very finely engraved with scenes from the Old Testament: Susannah and the elders and the testing of Abraham on Mount Moriah, perhaps copied from contemporary Flemish engravings, and resting on the original stepped plinth base.
