Description
Whytock and Reid
Edinburgh, furniture makers from 1838-2004
The partnership was formed in 1876 though Richard Whytock was working from 1838 and listed at the 9 George Street address at least in 1865. Following the 1862 International exhibition in London, and the 1865 Dublin International exhibition, the firm supplied furnishings to Balmoral for Queen Victoria, being rewarded with a Royal Warrant in 1885.
An important phase of the design development is connected with the commissions of the vernacular architect, Robert Lorimer who is known to worked with the firm between 1896-1912, where exhibits from this association were shown at the Arts and Crafts Exhibitions, London.
